Recipe For a Happy Marriage

In the hectic world of today's society, some families need to put in effort to make their marriage work. What then, is the recipe for a happy marriage?

You may want to begin with tolerance. This word however, may be associated with a number of misconceptions. Being a tolerant person in no way means being a door-mat. Both adjectives mean a world apart from each other.

Romance

To be tolerant is to be understanding of the others. This means that you know what it is like to be in the other person's shoe. This will break down any barrier between two people, if there is one to begin with.

However, you do not want to over-do this. Or else the other person will not be motivated to any improvement. Nonetheless, an unspoken understanding between two people will surely affect the other to actually improve in the long term. This will make your marriage so much stronger.

Another tip is not to be critical. Nothing kills a relationship slowly but surely than criticism. Criticism is counter-productive and feels defensive from the person who criticized. From the view of the one who is criticized, it is offensive. Contrary to some misconceptions, criticism does not motivate improvement but the other way round. Nobody ends up happily and neither is the issue solved.

Try to remember why you got together in the first place. Remembrances such as the first date and so on can bring back sweet memories to help reignite that feeling of fresh romance once again.

Be reasonable however and accept that your relationship has aged and is more stable than when you first started. You certainly have the power to allow your relationship to age gracefully rather than not.

Tolerance, non criticism and remembering the early times of the relationship can be the recipe for a happy marriage for you. Try it and see for yourself.

Gifts Hidden Within the Pages

Books are the best gift anyone could give a young person, besides reading to that young person. These books may be purchased at a large retail chain, but why spend a large amount of money on one book when you can spend the exact same amount of money and purchase possibly a dozen books that are sure to please this young individual that much more.

I recently learned from a friend of mine that worked at our local library that before the library can receive new books they must get rid of some of their stock of books that have not been checked out in a while. Once this collection of books has been gathered together they are gone through and I was shocked at the wonderful stories she had to tell of the strange findings her and another librarian found.

Romance

As enjoyed our dinner, I could tell you if it was her fascinating stories or the wonderful food that I was enjoying more, but I do know that she had me hanging onto her every word. She explained how she found an older blue certificate two dollar bill in a copy of A Journey To The Center Of The Earth by Jules Verne, which she was shocked to have found. While continuing to go through the many books, which would be sold at a public sale, they found an unlimited supply of monopoly money and playing cards, which readers had apparently used as book markers and had forgot to remove.

She then got to the really great stuff! Inside of a hardback novel written by Stephen King, her co-worker found a piece of folded notebook paper with "I will not start fires" written in the handwriting of a young child ten times. She said that through the years she had heard of this occurring at other libraries in the same books, but they had never had it happened at theres until now. I asked her what the book was, but she said she would let me figure that one out since I was such an avid reader. I guess I will be reading Steven King novel for a while thanks to her!

"What else did you find?" I asked. She went on to tell me about the different movie ticket stubs, a unused band-aid, a wrapper from a candy bar, and several baseball cards. Some of the worst things that she mentioned, which I was shocked to find out were a rusty razor blade in between the pages of an old war book and in between the pages of a couple Harlequin Romance novels were some very short curly hairs. Nasty!

They had found a large variety of dried flowers, especially roses, and even some leaves. Their most prized treasures were handwritten recipes that had been written on index cards, which were of some really great recipes that they both now enjoy making. The funniest thing she found was an entire Cadbury creme egg that had apparently been flattened by the weight of the pages. She said it still tasted great, but I knew she had not ate it or had she?

Romance Stories - Looking For Love and Hot Romance

Modern romance stories cover a broad field that embraces the paranormal, historical, western, black, fantasy, as well as American romance fiction. Plot lines strive to be fresh and settings are often intricate and detailed. Above all, the characters experience a yearning that has them looking for love and intimacy.

Many readers enjoy romantic fantasies and some of the best writers of romantic fiction are active today. Of course, the success of the Twilight novels (and movies), the True Blood TV series and the Vampire Diaries have given a push to what is known as paranormal romance.

Romance

Although the love lives of ordinary people are still hugely popular, as can be seen with the work of Nicholas Spark (The Notebook, Dear John and Message in a Bottle), many romance novels today delve into a fantasy world that is a step (or more) beyond normal reality.

So, although readers might still hunger for the Rhett Butlers who carry Scarlett O'Hara up the staircase (Gone With The Wind), a lot of the heroes and heroines in today's fiction also possess uncommon powers. Maybe they can change shape (shape shifters and werewolves), read minds (telepaths) foresee events (seers), speak to the dead (necromancers), display extraordinary strength and speed (vampires) or have other skills that equip them beyond the ordinary.

Of course, historical romance is still very much alive and kicking with many modern romance novels that make use of gothic, Victorian, Regency, confederate, western, etc. settings. Lords, princes, highlanders and pirates abound in the historical fiction of Stephanie Laurens (The Elusive Bride), Diana Gabaldon (An Echo in the Bone), Sabrina Jeffries (The Truth About Lord Stoneville) and many others who like their romance touched with the atmosphere and customs of a bygone era.

Western and country romance is also strong, with many adherents. Although True Blood (Charlaine Harris) is thought of as paranormal romance, it is also set in a small town in Louisiana. Those who like to read about heroic, passionate cowboys should consider Kerry A. Jones (Loved Enough), Leigh Greenwood (A Texan's Honor) and Lorelei James (Branded As Trouble).

Story lines reflect attitudes women can identify with, regardless of the settings. For instance, Lora Leigh, in Nauti Deceptions, writes about an attractive female teacher who changes her identity after being framed and involved in a sex scandal in a small town in Kentucky.

In Dark Slayer, by Christine Feehan, Ivory is a rarity, a Carpathian female who has been protected throughout her life but circumstances compel her to free a 'mage' from a cave that serves as a prison and to flee with him.

The leading characters in modern romance stories have feelings and emotions that build to moments of intense passion and the plots may be clearly erotic. The heroines in these stories (despite their settings) are not the delicate, restrained women to be found in Jane Austen novels. They often face danger with courage and embrace romance with an eagerness that earlier generations could only dream of.

Those who are looking for the romantic and social subtleties of an earlier age might well be advised to seek out the writings of Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters. However, for those who prefer their romantic fantasies to be more akin to hot and sweaty, modern romance writers serve them well.
